🌟Bright Minds🌟: A Story From Our New EO Aaron!
Back to newsMy name is Aaron and I am a new Engagement Officer for the Southern Region. I have been having a blast engaging in schools in the most beautiful region of Nova Scotia, with some very enthusiastic and funny students.
The goal of Green Schools is to inspire changes in the day-to-day lives of students. Recently, I was visiting South Queens Middle School engaging with four Grade 8 classes. We were discussing the watts per hour that different household appliances use. A student was keenly paying attention, and noted that the oven can use 2500-5000 watts. Later in the presentation we discovered that the hair dryer on high was using 1250 watts — half of what an oven might use. The student raised her hand and shared that she was going to stop using a hair dryer, as using “half an oven to dry my hair seems a little excessive.”
I thought it was a creative articulation. Engaging with the youth can often open my eyes to keen observations and unique perspectives. What she said was absolutely true and gave me a lot of affirmation that we are reaching kids on a personal level with our message.
