Our Annual Energy Challenge Is Underway! 🌱⚡
Back to newsWe are thrilled to share that our annual Energy Challenge has officially begun, with over 10 schools from across the region coming together to take action for the planet! It’s inspiring to see classrooms, teachers, and students uniting with a shared goal: learning how small, everyday choices can make a big difference for the Earth.
As part of the kickoff, participating classes completed a pre-challenge survey, giving us a snapshot of the energy-saving habits already happening at school and at home. The responses were an awesome starting point, showing that many students are already thinking critically about energy use. As the challenge progresses, we know they’ll build on this foundation, gaining new knowledge, skills, and confidence to make even greater impacts.
Some of the most common ideas shared in the open-ended feedback included:
- Turning off lights when leaving a room or when they aren’t needed—by far the most frequently mentioned action and a great reminder of how simple habits matter.
- Reducing phantom power by unplugging electronics and chargers when they’re not in use, with many students pointing out that devices still use energy even when turned off.
- Using natural light by opening curtains or blinds during the day instead of switching on lights.
- Acknowledging challenged, especially around constant device use, with honest reflections on how saving energy can sometimes be difficult in a tech-focused world.
These thoughtful responses show that students are already engaged and aware of their energy use and that’s something to celebrate! The Energy Challenge is all about learning together, supporting one another, and recognizing that real change happens when everyone plays a part. By coming together as school communities, we’re helping to protect the Earth today and build a more sustainable future for tomorrow.
We can’t wait to see how these schools grow, learn, and lead as the challenge continues! 💚🌍
