Caroline: Futures Podcast’s first ever featured Green Hero! 

Happy New Year Green Schools!

We hope that you all had a safe and happy holiday season. To kick off the first News Story of 2021, we wanted to start off by telling you about one of our most recent podcast episodes that featured our first ever Green Hero: Caroline. 

Caroline is a grade 2 student at Frank H MacDonald Academy and was recently nominated as a Green Hero for taking initiative to help the planet in her community. In her free time, she loves to be creative, whether she is working on her latest art project or attending her gymnastics and dancing classes. We are really inspired by how passionate Caroline is about everything she does. When asked what her favourite part of her hobbies are, she had a difficult time deciding because she is SO passionate about everything that she does! 

When she isn’t busy with her artistic hobbies, she is also equally passionate about helping the earth. One way she likes to do this is through planting vegetables, such as her personal favourite, carrots! This is very helpful because it allows Caroline to eat locally and reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that are often emitted by transporting food into our grocery stores from far away places. 

Caroline and her friends have also taken the initiative to clean up her school at recess by picking up trash and being conscientious of turning off the lights during the day so the room can be lit naturally by the sun to save energy.

One thing that Caroline really appreciates about the earth is how beautiful and colourful flowers are. This appreciation for the beauty of nature along with guidance from her biggest role model (her mom!) are both big influences as to why her favourite season is Spring and why she is interested in making sustainable choices at such a young age. It was such a delight to have Caroline come on the Futures Podcast, and we are so excited to see what this little Green Hero does next!
