Meet the Team! Spotlight on Kelsey Brasil

Back to news

Hi! My name is Kelsey. I am a young professional who has always shown an interest in our planet. Growing up in Ontario, I remember that in grade one I auditioned for the part of “Captain Clean Water”. I was new to my school and yet I was able to get up on stage at the assembly and speak to the whole school in both English and French about water conservation.  I was dressed up as a water bottle as I talked about turning off the tap while brushing your teeth.

I joined the Eco-team in high school where we worked on waste management at school. I build planters and benches on my woodshop class to add to our school garden. In my first year at Dalhousie University, while studying Community Design and Sustainability, I joined the food committee at my residence.  I made sure there were healthy vegetarian options and encouraged the selection of local food.

My mind and heart have always been dedicated to my community and the environment. It has been my passion since before I can remember. Every project I’ve been a part of since graduating university in 2016 has been committed to helping youth and creating sustainable solutions.

As an Engagement Officer at Green Schools NS, I am connecting with young people across the province and working with this generation’s ‘Captain Clean Water’ or the young students creating gardens at their school. I have the opportunity to work with local students and brainstorm about how we can live our best lives while saving energy.  I am so fortunate that I can learn from students all over Nova Scotia as I travel from one provincial coastline to the other.

I have been learning as much as I can about each of my schools before my engagements, but I know there will be no better way to learn than visiting your classrooms and exploring energy efficiency together! I look forward to seeing you soon!
