New Green School Aspotogan Elementary is doing Power Down Fridays!

Back to stories

Aspotogan Elementary, located in Mill Cove on the eastern edge of the South Shore Regional School Board, is a new Green School that joined our community at the end of last year – welcome!

This P-5 school hit the ground running on their green initiatives in 2016. They started off the year by celebrating Outdoor Classrooms in October. Then in November they welcomed Engagement Officer Natalie McMaster in to chat about energy and energy efficiency with all of the seven classrooms. The students were very keen and already had some positive energy habits to waste less, and after Natalie’s visit a new Green Team was formed. This Team did not waste any time and have already presented at a school assembly! After educating their fellow students on the importance of being green they introduced Power Down Fridays at their school. After the presentations the students were keen to turn off unneeded hall lights and bathroom lights that day.

We expect to be hearing lots of green news this year from Aspotogan!
