Truro declares a Green vision on Earth Day!
Back to storiesEarth Day in Truro was well celebrated with many earth-loving enthusiasts aspiring for a cleaner and greener Truro. There was a reading and signing of an Earth Day Proclamation by the Town of Truro Mayor Bill Mills and Municipality of the County of Colchester Mayor Bob Taylor.
Students from École Acadienne de Truro, Cobequid Educational Center, and Bible Hill Junior High joined together to sing songs, share messages through chalk art, write their green ideas, and collectively planted a tree at the Truro’s Farmer’s market, donated by the Truro Tree Committee. Students also received red spruce seedlings, the NS provincial tree, supplied by the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources and Don Cameron, chair of the Truro Tree Committee and Forester with the NS Department of Natural Resources.
École Acadienne de Truro made up an Earth song to the tune of “We Will Rock You” replaced with “Let’s Protect the Planet” from music class with Ms. Hélène Lesvesque. The students also made a beautiful mural that was displayed in the farmer’s market. Thanks to Ms.DeAnne Pelchat and the grade 4 and 5 teachers for organizing a successful Earth Day celebration with the students.
Students from CEC also led a community singing of an energizing song about being cleaner and kinder to the planet.
